On Friday 23 rd June, Year 7 boarded a coach and made the journey to Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, as part of their English and Drama studies. When we arrived, the girls were treated to an interactive storytelling version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, with one man using a combination of scarves, shirts and an extensive array of accents to portray each character(except Puck, who was played beautifully by Ellie Panton). As the audience, we provided sound effects and helped to create different atmospheres.
The performance really brought alive Shakespeare’s gift for intriguing plots and timeless humour. After this, we had a guided tour of the theatre itself, and we learnt about its fascinating history and how it was built. We were also lucky enough to see the beginning of the warm-up for that afternoon’s performance of Romeo and Juliet; our attention was definitely caught by the music booming out and the actors throwing each other in the air! We had a wonderful and very educational day.
