On Wednesday 5 th July, Year 7 students travelled in to London to take part in the Catholic Children’s Society’s Annual ‘Good Shepherd Mass’ at Westminster Cathedral. The Good Shepherd Mass is a popular event for Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools across the Diocese and was originally scheduled for 8th June but had to be postponed because of the General Election.
St Catherine’s School has been supporting this event for a number of years and it was particularly gratifying to support a charity that is local to and very much involved in supporting families affected by the Grenfell Tower disaster.
We set off early to face the inevitable London traffic and managed to arrive in time for a brief rehearsal and a chance to learn something about the Cathedral. The morning Mass was celebrated by Bishop John Sherrington who spoke on the theme of ‘working together to build God’s Kingdom.’ Although usually joined by choirs from other schools, the change of date meant that St Catherine’s had sole responsibility for leading the singing. It was a long morning on a very warm day, but all students were a credit to St Catherine’s and enjoyed their experience of the Cathedral.
