Sixth Form General Studies Programme - the UK tax system

At St Catherine's, we believe that preparing our girls for the future is vitally important.  We encourage them to have opinions, and to be able to express and explore these. Of course, in order to be able to do this, it is essential that the girls have all of the facts!  Therefore, on Wednesday 1st February, Miss Bellerby gave them a talk on the UK tax system.

They learned about the different tax bands, the difference between tax and national insurance, and how our tax system compares to that of other countries. They looked at a tax statement for an average earner, and were able to see how much that person would pay in tax and what the money is spent on. A lot of lively discussion resulted, and the girls are now more able to see through the spin of politicians and to have their own informed opinions.
