Senior Carol Service 2009

The School hall looked transformed for the Carol service this year as we enjoyed the ambience of a candle lit room and a Crib Centre piece. The evening was beautiful and a Spiritual atmosphere was prevalent throughout. The Choirs sang beautifully and we heard, amongst many other pieces, a rousing rendition of ‘O Holy Night’ from the Gospel Choir, The haunting ‘Coventry Carol’ from the Chamber Choir and the very moving ‘Shepherds Farewell’ from the St Catherine’s Singers.

The Orchestra led the congregation very well in the carols. It was a treat for us to have Miriam Wilford in Year 9 accompanying us on her harp this year. The readers read their thought provoking pieces with expression and clarity. A wonderful evening was had by all. Thank you to all those girls who took part in some way.

Rambert Dance Workshop

A recent Dance Workshop run by a visiting Rambert professional dancer was enjoyed by a selection of Years 7 and 8 pupils. The pupils were taught the concepts and movements involved in the ‘A Linha Curva’ Brazilian inspired dance which is currently being performed by the Rambert Dance Company. The instructor was extremely impressed with the pupils who participated and who managed to learn the dance in an intensive 90 minute session. This was an extremely enjoyable and productive initiative will be repeated in the future.

Senior Inter-house Swimming Gala

The Senior Inter-house Swimming Gala took place on 10 and 11 November 2009. Just under a hundred girls in Years 7 to 11 competed in the gala which took place after school over two days. There was a great atmosphere in the pool as the swimmers gave their best efforts in their events and cheered in support of their houses. Pippa Wood in 10C gave an outstanding performance in the Year 10/11 Butterfly. The final results will be announced once the Prep Inter-house Swimming Gala has taken place and the scores can be combined.

British Legion Remembrance Service

The Senior girls went to Radnor Gardens to attend the British Legion RemembranceService on Wednesday. A reading was given by Rhianna Ilube (11S) and a wreath was laid by Danielle Luxton (11S), Head Girl, on behalf of the School. The Chair of the Twickenham Royal British Legion Committee thanked all three schools for attending.

Autumn Concert

We all enjoyed listening to the Chamber Choir, Gospel Choir, St Catherine’s Singers, orchestra and various soloists. We are now looking forward to Christmas and the girls are giving a number of performances in the local community over the next month.

Manor Activity Centre

During the first week of half term a group of 18 senior girls spent an exciting five days at Manor Activity Centre in Cornwall. We all had an extremely busy time taking part in activities including, surfing, sea cliff climbing, cycling and orienteering. One of the highlights being a private late night visit to Newquay Aquarium. Well done to all girls who took part; an excellent time was had by all.

Jazz Evening with Rhys Jones

I would like to thank everyone who attended the Rhys Jones evening just before half term. An excellent evening was had by all and Rhys had us entertained with his talk of his exploits in the mountains world wide. We raised £700 towards our trip to Ecuador in July 2010. The girls are working hard to achieve their goal and fundraising is continuing with a range of activities from working in our local market in Twickenham to jewellery design personal recitals and the list goes on.

Year 7 Teambuilding Day

The Year 7 girls spent last Tuesday teambuilding on Box Hill. In the autumn sunshine they were busy climbing ropes, falling off stacking crates and balancing on giant seesaws. The girls had a wonderful time in the fresh air and many gained immense satisfaction from climbing the high ropes and leaping for the trapeze, supported by their classmates.

The challenge course encouraged each team to work together to find solutions to physical obstacles. Luckily they got across the wires and swung on the log admirably. We were delighted with Year 7 especially as the training team complimented us on the way in which the girls interacted.
