Carnegie Medal for Children’s Literature Competition
November 8th, 2008
The Library celebrated the announcement of the winner of the prestigious Carnegie Medal for children’s literature on 26th June. The winner was Philip Reeve with his book “Here lies Arthur”, published by Scholastic last year. St. Catherine’s School was one of nearly 3,500 groups across the country and overseas who registered to take part in the “Shadowing the judges” scheme of the award. The scheme involved reading and reviewing the seven short listed books and attending lively lunchtime book discussions. A wide range of St. Catherine’s girls from years 7 to 10 joined the scheme and had fun voting for the St. Catherine’s winner! Mrs. Bloomfield said: “ I was delighted with the level of enthusiasm and interest this year and with the participation of the girls from different age groups. Jessica Warrior from year 7 said of the winning book “I loved the way that it showed a different perspective of the legend of Arthur”
