Senior Pupils Performing Community Dance Gala

In early February a small group of pupils replied to an assembly notice which was in search of dancers.

For two months the girls met regularly and even devoted some of their valuable Easter holiday to practise a dance that had evolved due to the expertise of the leading Year 10 pupils.

On Saturday 25th April St Catherine’s 18 strong dance group took to the stage for their first live performance, making their debut at the Richmond Community Dance Gala.

The representatives from St Catherine’s School joined 15 other dance acts from a selection of drama and dance schools to perform at the gala, which was a celebration of dance initiatives in the area.

The piece was a mixture of contemporary ballet, street dance and some break dancing thrown in for good measure. The choreography was designed to work to each individual girls’ expertise or interests, and the variety of genres gelled beautifully.

All of the girls involved must be congratulated on a significant achievement, but a special mention must go to Year 10 pupils Charlotte Rutherford and Connie Turnbull who were responsible for the music, choreography and teaching of the dance, aided by Ines Anderson.
