Spanish

Modern languages skills are a pre-requisite in today’s professional job market and we promote advanced study of languages both as a specialisation and alongside any other combination of subjects.

We aim to help pupils to use their knowledge with growing confidence and competence to understand what they hear and read, and to express themselves confidently in speaking and writing.

However, we aim to promote language confidence and skills for real-world purposes as well as academic ones.

Successful language learning engenders cultural and social understanding and empathy.

Pupils are offered opportunities to practise their language skills in context and learn more about other countries through a programme of courses and visits abroad.

Spanish Class Trip to Santander

Santander TripThe Year 10 Spanish class took part in a home stay course near Santander during half term.

Living and eating with the family presented the girls with an authentic experience. They even acted as extra babysitters to the new born twins in the house. The daily lessons were interesting and informative and they were enhanced by the picturesque views of fields and mountains.

We spent a cultural day in the city of Santander which finished with an enjoyable boat trip around the famous bay. The hike up to the prehistoric caves was worth the view and the wall paintings from twenty thousand years ago were incredible.

Shopping, ordering hot chocolate in an elegant spa hotel and a chance visit to a wedding fair gave the pupils the opportunity to speak, read and enjoy Spanish life to the full.

The girls worked hard; they were a credit to the school, and, not surprisingly, they have already asked when they can go there again.
