Curriculum subjects
A love of learning
At St Catherine’s we offer a broad and balanced curriculum of Arts, Humanities and Science subjects based on, but not confined to, the National Curriculum. Religious Studies is a formal, timetabled subject for all classes in the school as are Personal, Social and Health education (PSHE) and Physical Education. Teaching and learning are at the core of every student’s development from the moment they join the school and we have a dedicated team of well-qualified and experienced staff who provide a high level of expertise across all subject areas.
Throughout Years 10 and 11, students follow courses leading to GCSE qualifications and most students take ten GCSE subjects. We recognise the importance of these qualifications and work hard to ensure each student achieves the best possible results. This number of subjects provides sufficient breadth of curriculum to ensure that our pupils are acceptable to the universities of their choice, and allows sufficient depth to be reached in each subject to form a sound base for A levels.
At all stages students are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for managing their time and workload, and to develop appropriate study skills and revision techniques. Emphasis is also placed on the development of ICT skills and the school has up-to-date computing facilities.
The atmosphere at St Catherine’s is stimulating and supportive. We have an excellent academic record and expect all our students to work hard and maintain high standards.
Academic subjects studied from Year 7 through to GCSE are:
| Art Drama English Language English Literature Food Technology French Geography German History |
