Being in the Sixth Form is all about grasping opportunity and pushing yourself outside your comfort zone. In General Studies this week, the Year 12 girls listened to a talk from Graham Strudwick of the Jubilee Sailing Trust.
The JST has two tall ships, and they organise various trips, both within UK waters and overseas. What make the JST so special is that the “crew” are made up of a mixture of disabled and able-bodied people, so both groups of people can work together and form friendships. The ships are fully accessible, meaning the disabled crew members can participate in all activities involved in running a ship. Therefore, all crew members take part in everything from the mundane chores like washing the decks, through to the more exciting tasks like climbing the mast and navigating. I would urge the girls to consider taking up this amazing opportunity.
