The Year 8 and 9 Netball teams went to Condover Hall last weekend for the GSA netball tournament. There were 23 schools entered into each age group.
The Year 8 team played nine matches on Saturday and had a very tough day.
All students revealed enormous strength of character showing terrific determination. Students were given the opportunity to play various positions, revealing hidden talent. After a night of hot chocolate and X Factor the team was ready to go again to compete for the Plate. After three games with two wins and one loss they were the top team in the Final. The final was a thrilling game with end to end shots and not much in it. In the last few minutes we scored, making it 8-7 and realised we had become the plate champions.
The Year 9 team return from this tournament twice the players they were, injected with such a valuable netball experience. The team fought hard on Saturday and secured themselves a place in the Cup Final, ahead of 7 other schools. They prepared well the night before drinking hot chocolate stuffed with marshmallows and spray cream, whilst watching X Factor. I know they also discussed tactics late into the night, since all phones were confiscated. The standard of play in the Year 9 Cup Final was exceptional and we fought hard in the 5th-6th place play offs. I am so impressed by all players.
Most importantly all students were an absolute delight throughout the weekend. Both Miss Neale and myself realise how lucky we are to work with such committed, considerate and polite students who were throughout the weekend excellent ambassadors for the school and great company, even after travelling in the mini buses for a total of 13 hours. We look forward to the rest of our season.
