On Friday, 1 December the Year 11s and five Year 9 pupils attended the annual GCSE Science Live event at the Victoria Apollo Theatre. We were treated to five fascinating talks, each of which was given by a well-known scientist.

Professor the Lord Robert Winston discussed the biology of reproduction and showed an amazing video of a real fertilised egg travelling through a fallopian tube.

Professor Jim Al-Khalili explained the possibility of time travel using worm holes. Professor Andrea Sella, the one chemist, entertained us with an explosion and an explanation of the amazing properties of carbon dioxide.

Dr Helen Czerski discussed how the laws of Physics can be applied to everyday phenomena; and Professor Alice Roberts explained the fascinating evidence for evolution from the similarities of the anatomies of incredibly disparate species.

All in all, it was an extremely enjoyable and educational day out.
