The Art Department took 22 Year 10 and 11 Art, Textiles and Photography students to Barcelona from Friday 23rd -26th February. We had an early start on the Friday but by 1pm we had checked into our hosteland taken our first stroll down Las Ramblas, armed with our cameras and sketchbooks. We visited the market and at the girls request a trip to Sephora was greatly appreciated. We then visited the Picasso galleries and returned to our hostel for a good night’s sleep.
On Saturday we visited the Museu Nacional d’Art Catalunya , then Casa Mila (La Pedrada) by day and then returned at night for the light show. On Sunday we visited Barcelona Cathedral, the Artists Market in Mercadillo de la Placa de Sant Joseph then on to La Sagrada Famillia including towers finishing off at Parc Guell. The next day we returned to the UK having been much inspired by the trip.
The girls were amazing and responded well to their themes and made many studies all of which will be used for their themes. The weather was just right and the early morning light was excellent for the photographers.
Barcelona was an incredible trip; thank you St Catherine’s for the opportunity to go. As an Art student, I found the trip pe rfect for my topic ‘Fragments’ with the mosaic tiles in Gaudi’s Parc Guell and the amazingintricate buildings around Barcelona. Not only this but La Sagrada Familia, also designed by Gaudi, was breath-taking. I found a lot ofinspiration from the trip and I hope what I saw in Barcelona will have an influence on my art and on my GCSE final painting.
I enjoyed visiting Barcelona because the Art Department made it a spectacular visit. It was a brilliant place for the GCSE theme as there was so much to see and Gaudi’s architecture was phenomenal.
