Students contribute to both the local and the wider community and in so doing increase their awareness of the needs of people from different sectors of society. Each year students organise events to raise money for a variety of charities, including; The Catholic Children’s Society, The Alzheimer’s Society, Macmillan Cancer Support, Spear (a local homeless charity) and Red Nose Day
Year 11 – Samaritan’s Purse – Operation Christmas Child
This year, Year 11 chose the Samaritan’s Purse – Operation Christmas Child – for their charity event. The charity asks for donations of shoeboxes filled with gifts for children who have very little.
Back in September, we launched our appeal at assembly and on Tuesday 21st November the charity collected an incredible 262 beautifully wrapped shoeboxes!
Year 11 would like to thank everyone for their support whether they donated a box, brought in extra items for the boxes, helped wrap and check the boxes or bought cakes from last week’s sale to help raise funds so that we could put the final details in place.

Cake Sale – MacMillan Cancer Support
On Friday, 29th September, the whole school was pleased to support Macmillan Cancer Care by taking part in House Bake Off. We had a staggering number of baked treats, ranging from delicious chocolate chip shortbread in Nightingale to the eventual winner of the showstopper category in Bronte. All the Houses did brilliantly, but the winner for overall display was Cavell. Pankhurst were the runners up, and the judges particularly noted their St. Catherine’s themed cakes. In total we raised £452.50 for Macmillan, of which we can feel very proud.
Miss Wallace—Deputy Head
Roisin Neligan-Ayling in Year 12 has raised a fantastic amount of money for the Alzheimer’s Society, a charity which is very close to her heart. Kind-hearted Roisin took part in the Memory Walk, raising £695. Not content with this, she also organised a bake sale, raising a further £90. In the Sixth Form at St Catherine’s, girls are encouraged to develop their own fundraising initiatives – giving is good!
Miss Bellerby—Head of Sixth Form
7M – Alzheimer’s Society
7M made cakes and we sold them both at break and after school. The sale made over £75 for the Alzheimer’s Society. Thanks to all the students and Prep parents for their donations.
Year 6 Charity – Mother’s Day Fair
On Friday, Year 6 ran a Mother’s Day Fair to raise money for our three chosen charities. Not only did the girls bake cakes but they were also very busy using their creative talent to produce a wonderful variety of bookmarks and little bags.
The other girls in Prep had a lovely selection of gifts to choose for their mothers … and we also raised money for Red Nose Day.
What a great success. Well done to all the girls.
