Physical activity and leadership skills are vital aspects of a young person’s development during their time at  prep school.

At St. Catherine’s Our Sports Leaders programme aims to help pupils in Year 5 and  6  develop leadership skills such as organisation, communication and teamwork, as well as helping to build confidence and self-esteem as they take on responsibility of leading their peers and younger children.

Pupils in Year 5 and Year 6 have the opportunity to become a sports leader, a role which brings great responsibility and enjoyment. It is a role which has been  developed to allow pupils to become role models within the school as well as developing their basic coaching skills in a range of sports.

Our Sports Leaders embark on an eight week training programme to develop their communication skills, ability to lead others, planning and organisation, creativity and ability to problem solve.  Following this training, the pupils then organise and promote their own lunchtime club after surveying their peers to find out what club would prove most popular. The children play an invaluable role in encouraging others to try new games and sports and their clubs are proving extremely popular.
