Director of Creative Arts

Job Description

This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated and inspiring classroom practitioner and innovative leader, who will manage the Creative Arts curriculum across the School (Prep and Senior) as we begin an exciting new phase at St Catherine’s.

This School currently offers very successful and dynamic programmes for Art and Design, Photography, Textiles, and Food and Nutrition. These subjects ensure pupils have a wide range of design and creative opportunities; they enjoy engaging lessons, create wonderful work and excel in public examinations. To date, the creative subjects have been managed in separate departments; however, the vision now is to gather these disciplines under one faculty thus enabling a more ambitious, multi-disciplinary approach to creative arts.

This change is part of the School’s strategic vision (St Catherine’s 2025) and is being supported by considerable investment in facilities. This has already included the extensive refurbishment of the Food room, the purchase of new sewing machines, and a designated teaching space for Textiles. There are plans for more extensive development of the School facilities as we focus on the expansion and enrichment of our Creative Arts programme.

The Director of Creative Arts is a new, much broader leadership post; s/he will take responsibility for Prep and Senior learning, develop the creative arts programme in Prep, and lead on a whole school commitment to creativity and design. The Head of Creative Arts will also develop external relationships with creative industries, take an innovative approach to the relationship between creative disciplines and technology, build the existing exhibition and events programme, and strengthen the School’s links with the local community and the maintained sector.

Applications are welcome from innovative people who would like to take a leading role in this development project. The Head of Creative Arts is not expected to have expertise and experience in all aspects of the curriculum or with all age groups; however, s/he will be someone who enjoys working collaboratively with and managing other creative teachers. The team includes very talented and ambitious people, who are committed to helping the girls thrive.

If you feel you have the experience, enthusiasm and commitment necessary for this post, then we would be delighted to receive an application from you. Please note that only applications on the School’s application form will be considered. It is not necessary to send a separate CV nor to complete an application in the TES format.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received so early application is recommended and the school reserves the right to begin the recruitment process prior to the closing date.
