To launch Year 3’s Ancient Egypt topic this term, we visited the British Museum to marvel at the fascinating artefacts and explore some of the many questions we have about the ancient Egyptians. Our visit started with a hands-on ‘Excavating Egypt’ session, where the girls had the chance to use their archaeology skills to learn more about different objects and then place them on a timeline from 3000 BC to today.
Next, having researched some key items within the museum before our visit, the girls enjoyed exploring the Ancient Egypt galleries and the wonderful exhibits including the huge sarcophagi and Ancient Egyptian board games; the beautiful, detailed tomb paintings and the Rosetta Stone.
It was great to see the girls’ enthusiasm for our new topic and also hear them making comparisons with Ancient Greece, which we studied last term.
