Job Description

St Catherine’s is a school very proud of its friendly atmosphere, excellent pastoral care and strong academic reputation. Our School Mission captures the spirit of our happy, confident and inclusive community.

We seek to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic and highly-motivated teacher of English. The successful candidate will have the skills to ensure excellent teaching and learning, will promote high standards, and show a commitment to pupil progress. Public exam results are very strong, and English is a popular A Level subject.

The School will be pleased to meet applicants who are interested in teaching other subject specialisms alongside English. At present St Catherine’s is also recruiting for a new Head of Middle School; any English candidates who are also interested in this post are invited to request the information pack.

The School is interested in applicants who are ambitious about their teaching and committed to creating a dynamic, rich and broad curriculum. Initiatives to strengthen the exciting extension and enrichment programme will be valued, as will a well-judged and knowledgeable focus on the learning needs of individual pupils.

The English Department is housed in a series of large and well-resourced classrooms, each with an interactive whiteboard. Classes from Year 7-11 are set by ability. The department follows the AQA GCSE syllabus, and Edexcel for A Level.

If you feel you have the experience, enthusiasm and commitment necessary for this post, then we would be delighted to receive an application from you. Please complete the enclosed application form and send it together with a covering letter addressed to the Headmistress via email to recruitment@stcatherineschool.co.uk

Closing date for applications: 11am, Monday 12 May 2025. Interviews will be held later that week.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received so early application is recommended and the School reserves the right to appoint prior to the closing date.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to a number of safer recruitment checks including Enhanced DBS, Barred List and online/social media checks as part of Keeping Children Safe in Education, and once in post, receive further training and updates.
