St Catherine’s is a school very proud of its friendly atmosphere, excellent pastoral care and strong academic reputation. Our School Mission captures the spirit of our happy, confident and inclusive community.
We seek to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic and highly-motivated teacher of Food and Nutrition and/or Textiles. S/he will be an inspirational and committed teacher who understands the way to motivate and inspire pupils, and enjoys communicating a passion for their subject.
We would welcome applications from teachers who are also able to teach other Creative Art subjects (e.g. Art, DT or Photography) and/or from applicants interested in a larger role, who have other skills to offer.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent planning, teaching and assessment skills, and have high expectations, excellent classroom management, strong pastoral skills and the ability to motivate, encourage and inspire pupils. S/he will be expected to play a full and positive part in the life of the School.
Currently, the curriculum across Years 3-13 includes Art, and Food and Nutrition, and Textiles is introduced in Year 9. GCSE girls can choose to take Fine Art and Design, Photography, Food and Nutrition or Textiles and there is a strong uptake in these creative subjects. Girls can study Fine Art, Photography or Textiles at A Level, and Graphic Design is also sometimes offered. There are options to develop and adjust this programme.
In Food and Nutrition, there are Ready Steady Cook competitions and a kitchen garden, from which girls source vegetables during the summer months. The School encourages pupils to enter regional and national competitions, visit Art/Food shows and exhibitions, and read current media publications and newspaper articles to develop their interests and knowledge. The Department also hosts a Creative Showcase in the Summer Term which celebrates the girls’ breadth of creativity and achievement over the year.
All members of staff at St Catherine’s are expected to play a full and positive part in the School and be fully supportive of the aims and ethos of a Catholic school and to share pastoral responsibility. The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to a number of safer recruitment checks including Enhanced DBS, Barred List and online/social media checks as part of Keeping Children Safe in Education, and once in post, receive further training and updates.
If you feel you have the experience, enthusiasm and commitment necessary for this post, then we would be delighted to receive an application from you. Please note that only applications on the School’s application form will be considered.
Closing date for applications: 11am, Wednesday 19 March 2025. Interviews will be held the following week.
Applications will be reviewed as they are received so early application is recommended.
