Last Tuesday (5th February) brought us the very first House Music and Dance Competition here at St Catherine’s. With two outside adjudicators, Ms Kym Richards and Mr Alex Leadbeater, as well as Mrs McPherson on the judging panel, the pressure really was on for everyone to perform to the highest of standards. We began the proceedings with hearing the instrumental numbers from each house, of which the judges crowned Selma Ruud Woldmo, (Bronte) performing ‘One Summer’s Day’ on the piano, the winner.
Next up we had the ensemble round where we were lucky enough to be treated to a range of talents; a group of Nightingale girls singing a beautiful rendition of ‘Hallelujah’ from Shrek, an energetic, all-singing, all-dancing performance of ‘Work it Out’ from High School Musical by Cavell and a fabulous dance routine to ‘The Other Side’ from The Greatest Showman from a group of Bronte girls. However, the winning house in this round was Pankhurst who, performed by Iona, Millie and Giri, stunned the audience with ‘Super Trouper’ from Mamma Mia. We ended the afternoon with each House performing a song from their given musicals; Pankhurst singing ‘Thank You For The Music’, Cavell singing ‘We’re All In This Together’, Bronte singing ‘This Is Me’ and Nightingale singing ‘All Star.’ The judges decided that the winning House in this final round was Cavell.
After much deliberation, the overall winning House was Pankhurst. Special prizes were awarded to Selma Ruud Woldmo and Juliette Savy. I would like to thank all the girls, from Prep to Sixth Form, for all the hard work they put into this new House event, all their efforts really did pay off. An extra special thank you goes to the judging panel and of course the House Captains and Heads of Houses for their continued work and support.
